Construction site security threats contained… with new control portal from ATEC Security
Protection against construction site theft, vandalism and terrorism is now a reality thanks to an innovative solution from ATEC Security. The ATEC access control portal is held within a solid steel freight container providing full control over access into and out of any site with the latest CCTV over IP integrated into the box. The container design means it can be easily relocated to best suit an evolving construction site environment.
Within the 6m x 3m x 3m container are three double bi-directional turnstiles providing six lanes of controlled access with MiFare Desfire contactless smart card reader points providing superior grade access security. Taking five seconds on average for an individual to swipe their access card, go through the turnstile and lock again means that approximately 700 people can enter per turnstile every hour, or 4,200 per ATEC container.
Flexible and resilient CCTV cameras can be installed internally as well as externally to monitor the immediate area surrounding the ATEC container. The cameras have ACF (activity controlled frame rate) functionality allowing them to drop to a very low bandwidth when there is no activity and return to full frame rate within 100 milliseconds upon motion detection, which drastically reduces storage requirements. Images are recorded on a one terabyte network video recorder, providing redundant storage that can be allocated flexibly between cameras. To comply with Information Commission Office guidelines, ATEC ensures that all images are retained for no longer than the desired period (typically 31 days). ATEC also offer deployable CCTV systems, which can operate wirelessly anywhere on site.
The accompanying ATEC portal software gives users a variety of configurable options, such as setting up access groups and time zones for different worker access levels. The control system incorporates anti-passback which prevents cards from being shared and provides extra security. This works globally allowing workers to enter via one access portal on one side of the site and exit via another, ideal for a busy location. The software also holds an ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) compliant database that can be analysed by other systems for performance reporting. With one external connection for power and one for IP network connectivity, the ATEC portal is quick and simple to set up on site with minimal wiring requirements. ATEC also offer wireless site network connectivity and LPG generator options so that no services need to be installed. Options even extend to advanced Biometrics such as hand geometry and iris scanning.
“The construction site security solutions we offer are designed to be as time-efficient and easy to implement as possible,” explains Simon Adcock, managing director at ATEC Security. “Because construction sites are busy environments, the on site security cannot impede day-to-day activity. That’s where our control portals really excel. They are quick and easy to move, set up and operate, allowing construction sites to run efficiently and securely.”
In addition to enabling secure on site access, ATEC ensures quick and easy enrolment for each worker’s security pass by supplying the relevant employment agency or subcontractor with a web form to enter the appropriate details. These are then stored in a database ready for the controlled access enrolment process to start on site. Workers simply bring proof of identification to the enrolment station, have their photo taken and their ISO Standard MiFare Desfire access card is printed on the spot.
